 The Anchorage Holiday Park

(Member, Top Tourist Parks of Australia)

                                            Iluka,  Northern Rivers district, NSW

                                                              Pet friendly (advise ahead)

Location:  The coastal township of Iluka is situated 17kms (but locals reckon it's more like 18) off the Pacific Highway between Grafton and Woodburn.  Iluka is surrounded by the ocean, world heritage listed rainforest park and the Clarence River.  Popular destination for fishing, has a mixture of modern and old world charm in a very laid-back and friendly atmosphere.

The Anchorage Holiday Park is on the town outskirts on the way in, and across the road from the Clarence River.  We were very pleasantly surprised by the parks' ambience, the quality and 'cared for' presentation that said 'welcome', not to mention the friendly and informative welcome from the office-staff.  Don't forget to look for the koala in the palm tree when you arrive.

Graeme and Anne have hosted the park for over 20 years and are willing to share and guide you with their local knowledge.  They have built around them very clean and practical surroundings, with some little added touches that really does make you feel like your being hosted, and that they and their staff have listened and thought about what its like to be in the traveller's shoes.  On arrival, you will be escorted to your site.

A camp kitchen can cater for large groups or individuals.  Includes ample BBQ facility, fridge/freezer, microwave, small appliances and pots and pans.  All kept immaculately clean.  Equally immaculate and ample are toilet/shower and laundry facilities, brightened up by live pot-plants and piped local radio broadcast.  There is an enclosed swimming/wading pool with CCTV for safety monitoring, along with a kid's playground to rival many childcare centres.  Jetty and boat ramp for park use are across the road.  A herb garden suggests you pick for your own use, and the office kiosk supplies basic needs, fishing gear, bait, ice, gas and friendly advice.

Sites:  About 70 sites including non-powered and two drive-through sites.  Most sites have annex pad and some also have caravan pad.  Manicured lawns and tropical surrounds.

What to see and do:  Enjoy the local seafood, it is superb.  Walks, bike-rides through the town, ocean beach, national park or river mouth foreshore.  Variety of feathered birds in abundance through-out the region.  Boat hire, fishing, swimming, golf, bowls and kayak tours.  Dog off-leash beach.  Enjoy a ferry ride up across to Yamba township or a river cruise.  Talk to a friendly Iluka local.

A message from Graeme, Anne and the Anchorage team:
